A strong trademark, right from the start

“I can think of enough examples of people who started out small and are now the proud owners of a trademark that is famous around the world. Just think of all those DJs who had their names registered six or seven years ago. Back then no-one thought that the names of famous DJs would become so valuable. Their interests are now protected all over the world.”

What is a trademark?

Trademark and domain name

Trademarks and domain names are two totally different things:

  • Trademark registration gives you the exclusive right to use this trademark in the Benelux territory.
  • A domain name registration does not give you any exclusive right. In effect, it is nothing more or less than a kind of address, comparable to a telephone number, to identify a site on the World Wide Web (Internet). You have to register to acquire this address. There are a variety of domain name extensions such as .nl, .be and .lu (national extensions), or .com, .eu or .int.
