What is a design?

A drawing or design (for the sake of legibility this website generally refers simply to designs) is the appearance of a product or a part thereof that is new and has an individual character. The appearance results from the features of, in particular, the lines, the contours, the colours, the shape, the texture or the materials of the product itself or its ornamentation. Products means any industrial or handicraft item.

Registering a design with the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP) gives you an exclusive right in the Benelux area for a period of five years, which can then be extended for four consecutive periods to a maximum of 25 years.
